Promoting Opportunities for Inclusion in Social care Employment (POISE)

The partnership aims to explore staff recruitment and retention issues in the care sector in Northern Ireland focussing initially on the North Down and Ards/North and West Belfast areas with a view to mainstreaming its findings throughout Northern Ireland.

The partnership will work collaboratively to review practices relating to the recruitment and retention of staff in the care sector focussing on equal opportunity issues.

The project objectives will include the development of measures to combat attitudes that inhibit women’s entry to and progression within the labour market;

• working with employers to adopt working practices that enable women to progress within employment;
• measures to encourage men and women to enter professions in which they are traditionally underrepresented; and
• Facilitation of unemployed people and school leavers to join the care workforce.
