Employment for Autism

The DP will bring together key stakeholders in the statutory and voluntary sector in the Greater Belfast Area to work alongside people with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to develop a programme of support and training to enable people with ASD to tackle the specific barriers they face in accessing employment.

Although training and employment services for people with learning disabilities have been operating in N.I. for 10 years plus, none are prepared for the increasing number of adults with ASD being diagnosed or the number of children transitioning into adult services.

The Project will meet an identified need and will ensure the involvement of people with ASD at every stage of its planning and implementation.

Information will be gathered locally at EU level using existing and new transnational partnerships to develop a individualised support package based on a model of Supported Employment, which advocates the need for real work, for real pay, in an integrated environment with the appropriate ongoing support.
